Mike Fook – Thailand’s Best Selling Author?

Mike Fook has been selling the heck out his ebooks on Amazon lately. If you check the bestselling list after searching the Kindle ebook store for “Thailand” you’ll find that he has two books already in the top 10. One is at position 8, the other at 10.

John Burdett, who wrote Bangkok 8, has a number of books in the top 10. Shows that there are few authors that have any decent books to offer the ebook readers. Not to say his work is no good – I’ve read no more than the sample chapters. John writes in a way I don’t enjoy reading – and from a perspective that doesn’t jive with what I like. Still – THOUSANDS of people like how he writes and he’s the top writer. For now.

The ebook market has the potential to change everything. There are writers today – book writers – traditional book writers – that enjoy being top dog. They’re going to be replaced in some cases. Obliterated in others.

Currently – taking into account all online channels – Mike Fook is selling over 25 books per day. John Burdett prices his books (rather, his publisher does!) at the insane price of $14.99 in some cases for the EBOOK! Nuts.

If you are a new author and you want to write a book about some aspect of Thailand – WRITE IT NOW. Get it out of your head and into your computer as fast as you can. New authors this year – who crank out a few books per year (10?) can be firmly established when the ebook revolution takes hold and kills the last remaining holds outs (paperback readers).

EBook Submissions

For writers that wish to publish their unpublished books with us:

If you are a writer in Thailand or anywhere in Asia and you want to write an eBook and sell it here please read the ebook submission process first.

Here is the process:

1. Create your ebook. Create a book that will generate a lot of interest. We already have travel guides in Thailand covered, but look at our list of other ideas to come up with something we’re sure will work – or, come up with your own ideas. Fiction welcome, set in Thailand.

2. Edit and format your ebook for ereaders. We have detailed instructions, and it takes some effort – but I can reformat my 100 page ebook in 2 hours. It’s necessary to reformat because most ereaders don’t like graphics, and special formatting. ANY special formatting. So, it’s a pain, but necessary.

3. If you absolutely don’t want to do it – we can just sell your book as a PDF. Send us the PDF or Microsoft Word copy and we’ll convert to PDF.

4. Sign our agreement. You retain all rights, we just need rights to sell your ebook also.

5. You’ll choose a price for your ebook – which will the same price as it is listed in other markets, or, under $7.99 USD if not for sale elsewhere.

6. We list your ebook(s) here. We have a number of Thailand based sites that are linking to this site and we are already in the searches at G! or Y! for “thailand books” or “thailand ebooks”.

7. Tell any friends that have websites about the availability of your ebook and ask them, beg them, pay them, to link to your ebook sales page here. Any link you can get to your product pages from other sites will help you sell more books.

8. We’ll also market your ebook on Twitter, Friendfeed, Tumblr, Google, and Facebook, and through other channels.

9. When your ebook sells you’ll make 60% of sales (after payment processor fee).

One of the best ways you can make money through selling ebooks is if you create a SERIES of ebooks. One book is great. It might sell well. Create a series that people can’t do without and you’ve really set yourself up for what might turn into a career.

You’re free to sell your ebooks anywhere else you like, or sell them on your own at eBay, or wherever. We have no binding agreement that takes any rights from you, just enables us to sell your ebook in addition to whatever you’re doing. This is in stark contrast to traditional paper book publishing contracts.
